is the pitot tube heated? and where is it located? what type ? cant see one on any photos ... thanks

The pitot tube on a Top Cub is heated, it is on bottom of the left wing mounted to the front of the rear spar. (same place a PA18 pitot tube is)

Sport Cub and Carbon Cub do not have a heated pitot. It is in the front of the left jury strut, similar to some of the earlier Piper models.

thanks for the responses..... picture worth a 1000 words.............. is this where the kit builders put theirs also? also. what do the guys building the ex or working or adding to the ss etc do for gyro instruments? go electric or what? thanks

The Carbon Cub EX uses the same pitot static system that is used on the Carbon Cub SS and shown in the picture below. Most of the EX builders that want an artificial horizon are using an electric horizon that is incorporated in a glass panel. The reason the Carbon Cubs perform so well is the light weight. As you start adding system to a Carbon Cub, one of your primary considerations should be how much does it weigh and do I really need it.

thanks mitch for your response.... after digging/figuring etc on attitude/DG at around 1500 each(for electric) that puts one at 3000, add the other gauges and the Dynon FlightDEK-D180 becomes a very smart choice.... unless you have the instruments handy and free................ i agree and understand that light, adds up to more fun etc...... just trying to look at all directions. also if it aint on the plane, it cant break ..... thanks
