    I took apart a failed sending unit for an electronic oil pressure gage. The sending unit had been screwed directly into the engine.

    It was pretty clear where the wiper arm normally rode on the little bar. Both the bar and the wiper were totally worn out from the engine vibrations causing the wiper arm to be in constant motion.

    Rotax has their own oil pressure sensor mounted directly on their 912 engine that works with the Dynon electronics and others.

    There are still mechanical (non-electric) gauges around that run the oil line directly to the gauge on the panel. Nothing like hot oil dripping on your leg to tell you that there's a problem. ;-)
