    Gary,

    You are correct. Removing the ballast would be optional, the advantage being the weight loss.

    The landing light whine will go away with the LED conversion.

    The Max Pulse unit will pulse any type of landing light. The weigh only grams, have multiple settings and are fairly economical. Something like $300. Also, for the certified guys, they are STC'd for PA-18 and CC18, among many other aircraft.

    Well I installed the Whelen Parmethius LED landing light. What looked like an easy job turned into a couple of hours of frustration getting the power supply from the old landing light out of the airplane.

    Darn thing in mounted on bolts imbedded into rubber spacers. What a headache. But it is out.

    The rubber shock mounts have nuts on the front side of the spar that can be accessed (not easily) by reaching in the hole the landing light mounts in and inboard with a wrench.

    Glad you were successful! I always thought the LED lights look more modern, appropriate on a modern aircraft.
