Flew 4hrs to my farm in Ga.Today Oat 90-95 oil never got over 179 just had flaps installed they put in the middle pos.Seems like i lost about 4-5 knots is that normal.I was going to close them for the ride home Sun see how it does there.Hope mine don't do that.

They do slow you down slightly. I have seen up to 4 mph difference between no flaps at all and wide open flaps. Not only do you have the flap sticking out in the air, but you also have air passing through the engine creating "cooling drag." Like anything in aviation, nothing is free.

I can live with loss dont fly cubs for speed. Looks like my door flange is going to hit ex pipe when i close it, do you usually have to trim those or is it just gonna be close. I was wondering door all the way open there doesnt look like much support on the back side of door if air flow was pushing his door against the pipe or extremely close.

When mine were installed they had to do some additional trimming. Jon

I have not seen that much of a drop before. With all of the variables (load, density altitude, power setting used, etc) including getting to know your new airplane, why don't you give it a few more sorties to gather some add'l data.

Yea I didnt see that much diffence on the way home. I am wondering how do you know if cowl flaps are on right I see some people have them on wrong.Instuctions say put left door on right frame. I didnt install so how can i tell which is right. Here are two pictures which one is right? One way front of door is recessed the other the door is flush.
