I figured that but hope for the other. 4 mph seems fairly significant. Haven't really noticed a speed difference yet but I fly slower most of the time and I changed pitch cartridges to a 46 from a 48 and its getting hotter here too...so can't get oranges to oranges.

I just know it runs mch cooler now and that makes me happy! Are those standard now on a new carbon cub or S2 order?

Standard equipment on the Carbon Cub. The frame is actually built into the cowling, so its a little cleaner look than the retrofit ones, though they did a good job designing those too.

S2, I don't think they are standard, but if someone were to order one I'm sure it would be a good idea, they could probably work something out to have them installed when new. Prob not needed if going to Alaska or someplace cooler like that though....

The cowling flaps are really working well fairly consistent around 180 degrees..once when climbing hard temp got to 200...this is in 90 degrees and high density altitude!

I am happy with the results!

Yesterday we hit 100 degrees OAT here in AZ. Mid morning taking off from a 2600' dirt strip in the mountains and climbing at 70 mph to 5000' the oil temp eventually reached 220 degrees once leveled out of course the temp came down to 200. Cowling flaps are wide open.

Just returned from YKM. Along with an annual CC installed cowl flaps on my #32. Oil temp on trip up 190, 170-175 on trip home.
Also had new HD torque tube installed along with several other mods if anyone is interested. Oh, should mention this temp change was with the flaps in the most closed position.

Had my cowl flaps installed today. Initial comparison with about same OAT of 90 degrees was 205 degrees on the oil temp without to 180 degrees with the cowl flaps in the full open position in the Texas warmth. This will help a lot. Jon

I opened my cowl flaps after returning from Montana - to the full open position.
Here is what happened on the second flight in that position:

yup - it buckled. The right side door was more flimsy than the left one and it didn't have the same nice curvature.

Whaaaat? Thats crazy! Updated report on my temps with cowling flaps and 110 deg weather here in AZ...max temp I see is 220 degrees and usually on climb out. Lots of high density altitude here!

crazy that it buckled? I know right?
And the oil temp goes to 210 with the full open for normal 75% operation, and 220 on climbout - OAT about 85
I didn't notice much of a difference between the middle setting, and full open. Of course I didn't have much time before it buckled.
