What is the best tool and process to remove the RESERVOIR PLUG?

A regular pair of pliers, grip the edge of the cap and give it a little twist. Reinstallation is easy by hand.

I have always managed to extract mine with fingers but I sometimes worry that the force required will separate the reservoir tube from the elbow.

Is that joint bonded?

The cap that you remove is smooth, the lower end onto the elbow is barbed. I've never tried to pull the tube off off the barbed fitting but I suspect it would be pretty hard to get off.

Couple of general thoughts.

First, I see no need to jam the plug all they way down, just push it in until it is snug

Second, when removing add a gentle twisting motion in addition to pulling upwards.

Never have had a problem with it either coming off inadvertently or being unable to remove it when necessary.
