FX-3 problem report - flaps
The upper surface of Carbon Cub FX-3 flaps has a full span mylar (or smilar) adhesive strip that runs against the flap fairings as the flaps are retracted and extended. This strip is concealed when the flaps are retracted but fully exposed when the flaps are extended. The rub strip passes over raised flap rivet heads and it may lift and separate in these areas. The edge of the rub strip near the rivets may lift enough to jam on the trailing edge of the flap fairing preventing flap retraction.
I suspect this problem is more likely to be seen in aircraft exposed to high temperatures as that likely causes softening of the adhesive. I suggest flaps are extended to inspect the rub strips during pre-fight and a flap full extension is performed before setting flaps for takeoff. The flaps check is when I found the problem before leaving a remote dirt strip. I shut down and taped over the raised edges to get home.
