    Question CC11-160 Carbon Cub SS

So just scratching the surface of being introduced to the Cub family; never flown in one & looking very forward to it . I've been checking out all the different specs & equipment & I keep finding myself having the same question. I recognize that the Carbon Cub SS is an LSA & therefore shows a max gross of 1,320lbs - I also recognize that the builds of comparably equipped FX models have a gross of 2,000lbs. They both appear to share the same airframe, engine, equipment etc.
So the question is this - real world, do owners of Carbon Cub SS's use the 2,000 lbs as gross for your SS or do you restrict yourselves to the 1,320? Also regarding the 180hp for 5 minutes, again, do you restrict yourselves to this figure if you're flying an SS or since I believe it to be the exact same engine as the FX - do you operate it as such?

Thx for any and all feedback - looks like really neat airplanes regardless

You should call Mark Keneston he’s your local dealer and he could help you with all those questions. The FX2 is 1865, FX3 is 2000. The SS is tested to 1865Lbs. The 180hp 5 minute restriction is to keep it light sport. If you put the same engine in a FX2 there is no restrictions. The FX2 can be brought back as a light sport and moved up to 1865 at any time with a log book entry.
    Hope that helps

A little thread drift; who is authorized to make the log book entry to change the GW? Obviously you would need to change the W&B.

If it’s a EAB my understanding is anyone can. It would need to go back to phase 1 for 5 hrs And yes it would need a new weight and balance as well. You can move it up to 1865 can’t go back down to Light sport.
