How do you remove the top silver knob with the elevator trim switch on the control sticks?
I have a new grip I’m installing.

Can't say for sure, but have you tried to gently pry it off? I imagine it is just a machine type fit, not glued, as one might need to get in there to fix things.

Yes, it’s tight. I don’t want to scratch or damage it.
Yup, totally understand.

I looked at my FX-3 rear stick this morning. There is a plug in the forward face well below the trim switch. Does this conceal a retaining set screw? (FX-3 has multi-switch grip on front stick and simple simple trim only insert on rear stick)
Andy, I believe that plug on the front of the back stick is there in case a button is to be installed, as an example, moving the PTT switch on the wing root down to the stick.

Where you able to remove top of stick for access to trim switch, ? If so how did it go? mine is very tight, maybe lock title in,
The aluminum top cap is pressed in with an interference fit. The trim switch is glued into the aluminum top cap. If you are replacing the trim switch, the top cap is also typically replaced. It can be removed from the stick and the stick re-used but in order to grip the aluminum top cap it usually damages the aluminum cap.
The earlier switch with the oval profile trim switch (when looking down from the top) is no longer available, the current trim switch has a rectangular shape (corners are square) when looking at it from the top and uses a different aluminum top cap p/n.
