Bob, I'm with you on the Aero Lithium Battery Co. The problem with their battery was that they had no overvoltage protection circuitry of any kind. Now days most all of the lithium batteries made for aircraft have this protection circuitry included, I have much more faith in them now since the Aero Lithium years. However, you can't go wrong with a good ole lead acid battery

Post Re: Best Battery for our Carbon Cubs?

I have read through many of the posts "Best Battery for Carbon Cubs" etc. Good stuff.....However I am looking for information with regard to Jump Starting a weak or Dead Battery?

Eg. Extending two lower gauge cables from the installed 12 volt Batt's positive and Negative poles, forward under the seat(obviously with a system protecting each of the leads from contacting each other or contacting any other metal) then if needed using a small portable power bank jump starter to power the battery via the extended Batt cables, thereby the starter.

    Questions:

•Has any one out there set up a system for doing so? PICTURES?
•Since the portable Jump Starters have high Amp outputs any potential when hooking up/using portable jump starters of harming the other back up batteries to any of the G3X electrical systems or the Ignition for example?
•Any one out there that has devised an en-genius way of installing a back up system and has actually used same please comment.
    •ALL THOUGHTS WELCOME

    Thank you , Slow fight

    Slow Flight,

I also always carry with me one of the jump starters. The link here is of an Armorall model that is about the size of a large cell phone. I just use this one because Hardrock casino was giving them out free one day! There are many models of these type jump starters out there. This one is nice because it holds it’s charge forever and is strong enough to start my truck Diesel engine!! Also, I take it hunting , etc and use it as a battery pack to recharge USB accessories while in the field (like cell phone, etc. Anything with a USB connector). They are lithium so I keep it in the plane but in a pocket within reach of my pilot seat in case of fire.

    https://www.amazon.com/Armor-All-AJS...r=8-3-fkmrnull

To use it, you just remove the 2 pins in the back of the pilot seat, slide it full forward and then it will tip up forward exposing the battery. You can connect the jump starter easily.....drop the seat.......start the engine and then jump out and remove the jump starter. I’ve only had to use it once before I used the maintainers and it was a 15 degree day and I hadn’t started the engine in a couple weeks. Now using the maintainer, you should never have to use it but its so lightweight and compact......why not?

    Hope this helps.

Does anyone know if this battery fits the old style Carbon Cub (2010) battery box if it has not been upgraded to use the larger battery.

    thanks lots!

I would think so. Mine is a 2010 version and it would only accept that type of smaller battery.

I bought and installed the kit to accept the Odyssey batteries and would recommend doing so. Those are the best IMO.

Thank you for the advice, I did not know about this firm. I read good reviews about Braile in the Internet:
    1. Lightweight.
    2. Discharges only 1-3% per month without use.
    3. Can be installed in any position

I have been using an EarthX LiFePO4 battery in my 2010 carbonCub for five years without replacing it.
its an ETX series and fits the old battery box without modification.
the original lead acid failed in one year, the second one lasted two years as did the third one.
The EarthX starts the engine without hesitation and does not need a maintainer to keep it charged.
it has protection circuitry to make it safe.
    much better system.
i installed a connection system under the seat to be able to jump the Li battery but have never used it.

Thanks for the update. This battery discussion has sure been going on a long time.

Seems to be more than one thread on the subject. Has CubCrafters updated the 2016 position on these batteries covered by Pat Horgan in 2016?
