Almost all of the motorcycle battery manufacturers will say you can't use their batteries in an airplane.
If you want information from them you must hide the aircraft part.

I would recommend NOT "bumping" the starter on a Carbon Cub. It is a good technique to have in your toolbox when working with magnetos but with the electronic ignition can cause a kickback that could break the starter, ring gear or both. When the crankshaft rotates back and forth it may pick up the magnets out of sequence and fire mis-timed.

The Lightspeed ignition knows timing and RPM by magnets on the back of the flywheel. If the magnets pass by the sensors out of sequence such as when the prop reverses direction I have seen several airplanes kick back and break starters or ring gears.

    Try looking at upgi.com.

They have sealed premium AGM batteries as well as the Phantom lithium iron batteries. I have a sealed AGM as the primary, and one of the Phantom lithium iron as my backup battery. Fits the space in the old battery box and does a great job starting the airplane. There are some good replacements there for whatever you choose to run with.

I'm still a bit confused about the batteries. I understand that the new starter as reduced the need for the bigger battery, my question is: with the smaller starter, what would be a good cold and hot cranking amp spec for the CC340.

I used a Lithium Aviation battery (550CA) in my UL 350 (130hp) and it worked very well in that engine. I was taking to Andy(Lithium Aviaton) yesterday and he says there is a Carbon Cub in NZ using his 800CA battery with really good results. If the NZ pilot is on the forum it would be nice to get a report from him on the Lithium Aviation battery.

I'm very pleased to report that Andy's battery is still as good as new after 2 years. I posted a video of the start performance earlier in this thread and it's still like that.

I plan to get a second one for backcountry ops as insurance.

Thanks for responding, Is that the 800CA battery? I'll look for your video.

Has anyone measured the CC340 amp draw during start up?

I tried a W Standard Part# WEX6R27-MF Lithium Ion. Fits perfectly in 2012 Carbon Cub.
It is supposed to put out 405 CCA. (Twice the CCA of the stock battery.)
But it wont turn engine over.
So I am wondering if they rate their CCA differently than lead cell batteries???
When I questioned them on that they would not respond to that question, they just kept asking what motorcycle
I was using it in, so I returned it.

    Sorry about the delay.

I have to say I don't know. I recall being told 1000CA but I can find no reference to that.

Whatever it is it certainly works.

Andy at Aerolithium reckons that he will have the new batteries ready in about 3 weeks. I've attached the pic he sent me, altogether a better look than the original I have.
