New on this forum, and hesitating between EX2 vs EX3

Hello everybody,

Thank you for hosting me on this forum.


I’m about to sign for EX-3 to be built in my garage here in northern Italy.
But at the last minute, I’m hesitating between the EX-2 and the EX-3.


It’s not only that I have to be convinced on the differences in the flight characteristics.
This is more than I wonder if these differences are worth the big price difference and also that the greater complexity of the variable pitch can lead to more technical problems that would make me regret not having chosen the EX-2 more modestly.


What is your feedback?


Is the Cc363i with variable pitch propeller no less reliable than the CC340?

An other question: what will be the plan B, when there will be a final ban on 100LL?

What is your mission? What do you plan on doing with the plane; more x-country than backcountry or more backcountry than x-country, or ???

Your questions are the type that only you can answer, so responses from the CC collective may be few if any.

While I have built an EX2, I have no experience with other CC planes.

Some of your questions you may have already answered; primarily the ones on complexity and cost.

Reliability between the two engines will be determined in time.

As for 100LL not being available anymore, that is anyone's guess and the decision probably has more to do with location/country/politics.

Let us know what you decide, either plane will be a great plane.

I spend the night on it, and I made my decision.
It will be more backcountry in our beautiful Alps Montains, than x-country... so it's gonna be a EX-2.
And I'll keep the difference in price to make it as perfect as I can !
It's gonna be the first Carbon Cub in Italy !

I only have 90 hours on the hobbs but the plane is turning out to be quite a capable machine. I'm sure the EX3 is very capable also. I like to keep things simple, but that's just me.

Living in Idaho US, we can fly backcountry at altitude and high DA's. While I haven't ventured to the extremes, the plane performs very well.
