    Default Open window in flight?

    The only mention of the windows that I can find in the AFM are in the checklists, "close window before takeoff", basically. Does anyone know, is flight with one or both windows open permitted? If so, is there a speed limitation? I think I've seen a placard in a CarbonCub that had an open-window speed limit, but saw no such notice in the XCub.

    Dane,

    81mph with ONE window open. Two open windows tends to assist in the removal of a D-Window.

    Dane,

    D-Window refers to the windows aft of the opening side windows, named for the traditional "D" shape on traditional Cubs.

    Gotcha. I’d like to keep all of the windows attached to the aircraft! So, only open one window, and keep it below 81mph. I’ll give it a try on the next warm day!

    All of the windows on the PA-18 have letters in the parts manual, starting with the front left "A" window (which sort of looks like an "A"), then the two slider windows B, C, and the two D windows in the back which are interchangeable p/ns, then the swing up window on the right is "E".

    You can remedy the “d” window leading edge separation by using a small strip of clear leading edge tape under the felt seal and wrapping it around the tube....no channel needed. Did this 3 years ago on my bird with no issue since

    Wow, never thought I'd see a thread on closed windows in a Cub. Most Cub guys think it's against the law to close the window and door while flying. My Pa11 was good to 122mph with everything wide open. Loops, rolls and slips included
