Just to clarify things, yes, the 496 is being discontinued. I was told by their product manager this past spring that we'd have supply until this fall, which is now, so they should be running out any time now.

Since it looks like the 496 is "built in" to the panel---what replaces it? Do you need to buy a new panel?
The 496 is housed in an Airgizmos panel dock that spans a standard avionics rack width of 6.25 inches. The height of the opening is 4.25 inches, which accommodates many of the Airgizmos Panel Docks. Many of the panel docks they offer use the same mounting hole locations within that opening. To that end, if needed, the 496 could be replaced with an aera 500 series, or aera 660, or even an iPhone. If the replacement device is intended to interface with aircraft power and audio, the electrical connector for the 496 would also need to be replaced. There are many alternatives, those listed here would just be the easiest.
Also keep in mind that a Standard LSA aircraft would also need an LSA Major Repair and/or Alteration (MRA) to modify the avionics and remain in the Standard LSA category.
Thanks--very helpful
