New/first time here----Have new Carbon Cub 180 ordered. Off assembly line Oct 24th. Went for the 3" extension on gear legs. Anyone give me view of this configuration vs standard gear legs?

    Jim,

Did a back to back comparison this morning between your airplane and another Carbon equipped with standard gear. The 3X3 handles great and allows more agressive braking. I like it! See you Saturday!

    Hello Everyone.
Does the 3 inch gear extension move the wheels 3" forward or just make the plane sit 3" higher?

Here is a diagram and explanation. This should answer it. Jon

There are two types of extended landing gear available from CubCrafters.

For PA18 Super Cub (and maybe some other Pipers?)

3" extended heavy duty landing gear (STC'd, gear legs are 3" longer than stock Piper)
    OR

3x3 landing gear (STC'd, 3" longer, moves the axle 3" forward as well)

    For CC11 Sport Cub/Carbon Cub:

3x3 landing gear (Same as the above 3x3 but built a little lighter for the LSA gross weight)

    Carbon Cub Kit:

Any of the above would fit, or the standard gear the above optional gear replaces.

    Thanks Guys.
It seems that the 3 " Forward would help alot on landing with braking and taxing down slopes.
And it wolud load the tail a bit heavier. With one pilot operation.

Is there a downside to the 3x3? If not, why not make 3" longer/3" forward the standard configuration?

Adds about 3 lbs to the empty weight. And some people prefer the tail really light when on the ground.

Thanks Pete. Any idea what the tail weights are with and without the mod (assume a "standard" CC SS)?
