Default Austro E4 Engine on the Carbon Ex cub

Does anyone know if this has been tried?

If this has not been tried, can any of you see any reason not too give it a go...BUT you must assume you don't have avgas nearby (Northern Canada)...which is why I put up with the extra weight associated with such a venture.

What would be the least painful paperwork process to go fly with such an engine for leisure only?

The Austro engine has 170hp and is used in Diamond aircaft and the American Champion Aircraft scout, as a prototype.

    Your thoughs are much appreciated,

    Cheers

408 lbs vs. 260 lbs, this would be quite a difference. Good luck, though.

At that weight you are going to have some pretty significant CG issues.

Ok, I appreciate the CofG issue you've highlighted, now the tradeoff becomes the diesel Austro E4 engine at 170hp at 408lbs vs. the CD155 diesel at 300lbs, but only 155hp of power for 100lbs less weight.

Which of these two diesel would you 'recon' is a better choice for the Carbon EX?

I can't use avgas, just a reminder for anyone else reading this!

    Thank you so much!

There is only Jet-A where I am, and where I enjoy going, so my engine on the CarbonEx has to be a diesel. The only other option is a small turboprop, but they burn 18gph.

    Ha, that's the sprit.

They have a pusher and tractor configuration, so I would imagine a beta thrust setup is a matter of hydraulics and the proper propellor. There should be no issues with the bearings in the gearbox.

Nowhere did I see a cost, but if you have to ask how much...

They are flying these on an RV-10 and another aircraft in a pusher configuration. Interesting.

It certainly will solve your lack of LL100 issue.
