    Default Removing factory N number

I'm looking to have the factory applied large numbers removed without a trace or blemish. What's best?
    Thanks,
    40m Glenn

Well I have removed a bunch of numbers. Every plane I've owned🤔The problem is depending on how much the paint has faded On how bad you'll see the shadow in the right light. Use 3M adhesive remover does really good job with numbers and the residue. (Which if is not cleaned off good grabs all the dirt and dust it can to really show the old #s) I have even used it on the silver with out harming the paint. The first one I did they were 2 years old I used a hair dryer to help take them off. Just have to be careful because of the fabric. I kept my hand in the heat to keep from getting to hot then used the 3m adhesive remove to get the residue off. I haven't used hair dry since just 3M take my time peal them off.
    Good luck.

Do you have polytone top coat or polyurethane?

I would us a blow drier to warm up the vinyl, not a heat gun, that will melt through the fabric. Then just take your time working the decal off.

If if you have polyurethane paint you could use some alcohol to clean up any leftover smudges. Then you could buff out the paint if you need too.

If you have the polytone top coat you can still use a blow drier but be very careful about using any cleaner. Remember that top coat is not chemical resistant. Test it in a small section or on the belly first to make sure you don't harm the paint.

It should be listed in the aircraft log what type of paint you have. If you can't find that, if it is a very shiny finish its probably polyurethane. If it is a satin finish its more likely polytone.

From the original brochures on the Sport Cub, it said "PPG two-part polyurethane paint".

With the use of friction, as in trees branches running along the sides or what?
