How well does the AOA in the G3X work? Feedback...like it?
Looks like it would be useful for winning STOL events !

We have installed at least one Garmin GI 260 AOA Indicator here at the factory. The flight test engineer who flew the autopilot calibration flights was very impressed. He stated that he felt like he was able to land more slowly than he ever had before.

There is an AOA indication on the screen, but the GI 260 is not standard. It's an additional standalone indicator that mounts on the glareshield, right in your line of sight on landing.

So is the AOA on the screen non functional? If so, why is it there?
The AOA indication is there AND functional in the G3X screen (standard w/ every G3X Touch system). The GI 260 is a stand-alone AOA display for installation in aircraft that are not equipped with a G3X system.
Except for the GI 260's display, it has the same system components as the G3X Touch (i.e. GAP 26 AOA/Pitot probe and GSU 25 ADHARS Unit).

Manager,
The AOA, as displayed on the screen, is perfectly functional. It's just not in your direct line of sight. The GI 260, mounted on the glareshield, is unobtrusive yet virtually impossible to miss. And, as Dickey pointed out, it's also available as a standalone system.

I think the best part of the G3X AOA is the audio. It beeps at you, beeps getting closer together the closer you are to 'stall'. Personally I would just use the AOA on the screen and you can keep looking outside and listen to it, never take your focus away from looking down the runway.

I love the AOA on my Dynon, works the same way as in the GX where the beeps get closer together as you get closer to stall. There's not need to look at the panel. I feel its an overall better indicator then the stall horn because this stall angle of attack does notchange with weight, temperature or density altitude. I've shut off my stall horn since I calibrated the AOA, just no need for it in my opinion.
