    Default Sport Cub Starter

Anyone else having problems with the starter? At 170 hr mine is grinding gears; I think it's trashed itself.

At 150 hours, mine is doing fine. Everything is doing well including cylinders!.I just wish I had more time to fly it.

Jeff, you either have a Skytec or a B&C starter. You might be able to see through the oil door... You can call Skytec at 800-476-7896, or B&C at 316-283-8000. They are both extremely helpful! Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
    Thanks, Becky

Becky, thanks for the heads-up. Guess I assumed we all had Sky-Tec's. I peeked in there and sure enough, it's a B&C BC320-1.

My BC320 is struggling through the first blade and shows high voltage drain while cranking. Running on condition. Will do starting amp check at annual. All other checks like battery, ground, etc are fine. No grinding noises. 200TT. Get trouble shooting procedures from B&C and test to see if starter bearings are shot.

Kudos to B&C, which just shipped my repaired starter back in time for holiday weekend flying -- all at no charge. Thanks, guys!

My Starter tried to engage in flight jan of 2009. When it was determined that the starter was the cause B&C took the starter - fixed/overhauled it and returned it to me pronto - they did a great job!! No problems in the 130 hours since.
