Wing Stands

Attached is a dimensional drawing of the wing stand we built.

We used clear pine. The frame is built from 1 x 3 nominal except for the vertical supports, which are 1 x 4 nominal. The deck is covered with ¼ plywood. The side gussets are ¼ plywood. We used birch plywood. A single 4 x 4 foot piece should suffice.

Casters are a definite must. Being able to roll the stands around makes working in tight places so much easier.

If I recall correctly, the carpet came from Menards and was a cheap 12 x 8 foot roll. Four sections, each 2 by 6 were cut. The vertical edges were folded back about six inches on each side to give it a bit more strength and to make sure no rough carpet edges touched the wings. Adjust the length so that the wing is suspended by the carpet. The top and bottom were wrapped and a staple gun used to hold it in place on the back sides of the wood supports.
