    Jeff, I was at 3000' and ff was 9gph,115 mph, if I fly at 2200rpm I see 98- 100ph and 5.6 gph.

Thanks. I was curious to see how lean or rich you were running it when you took the numbers.

Installed Both the Sump Insert and Fuel Nozzle. AvStar Carb. 2013 CC. Experimental.
Seems to run ever so slightly smoother in all power settings. Didn't have to adjust idle or mixture. Seems to be slightly more
sensitive on mixture control. CHT and EGT temps appear a little more together. The hotter EGT on #2 cylinder in cruise was
that way before, and came a little closer to the others. Seems to be burning slightly less GPH. Here is what I saw today at
    3,000' and 57F.

Mitch, where does the Volare carburetor fit in?

I wasn't sure sure what I had. I did a compression check and pulled the carb to install the intake sump and checked my carb, thinking it was a Marvel.

Is this insert used on the 2014 engines or is it an attempt at duplicating a design incorporated in the 2014???

I was able to fly mine since the installation of the sump kit. I'm seeing both egt and cht spreads of about 35 degrees maximum at 2400 rpm. And I would agree that it just seems to run smoother too. In fact that was the first thing I noticed before looking at the temperatures.

    Dan,
Have you fitted the fuel nozzle as well as the sump kit? I have fitted the sump kit without the nozzle, and have 50 degree spread in both egt and cht, I was wondering if the nozzle also helps narrow the spread of temps by a better fuel atomization and more even distribution.

Bruce, no just the sump insert.

i was thinking more about the smoother feel to the engine and how I noticed that immediately. I've learned when making changes like this, prop changes, gap seals, etc. to go with my first impression because before long the new change becomes the new norm and it is so easy to forget what it was like prior to the change.

Good question: the sump was modified for the 2014 models, the insert replicates the design change. The perforated fuel nozzle further improves fuel atomization and thus evens out temp spreads. IMHO they are both quite cost-effective and worthwhile improvements.
