    Default Skis 2014

image.jpgWeather and snow conditions combined for a great January day on skis in the EX. We had about 30" of snow up at Moose City and a good foot of that was powder. With a temperature of about -5 it was all fun. A warm cabin to get into for lunch and off for more fun flying.

WOW! that's simply gorgeous! Here is our South Florida version of the "Cabin in the woods" hosting a Carbon Cub, Some kind of contrast at same time of year! Best Gary

I like the contrast. It looks like a scene out of Duck Dynasty

In my first image the top third of it is British Columbia. The north end of our strip is about 100 yards from the border.

I have a question for the ski guys, how rough are the skis on an airplane. Was looking at a plane that was on skis is it anything to worry about?
    Thanks Chuck

Most landings you don't even know you touched down. You could always get into a condition with a layer of ice on top that might cause some damage to the fabric. I'd say nothing to worry about.

Any damage from ski operation is usually cosmetic. However, over the years I remember several cases of extensive damage. Most incidents are caused by one ski breaking through an ice or snow layer. I also have seen damage as a result of planes hitting objects buried by powder such as dri ki near the edge of a lake. Pumping the rudders at full power to free frozen skis also can result in damage to axles and gear. Last flying into the snow while landing on an overcast day is bad news. Lower powered planes are prone to overheating cylinders attempting to get airborne on sticky conditions. Carbon cubs are exempt from that worry.
So, check the tail feathers and belly. Look for bent axles and your good to go. Jake
