I agree. I have been thinking about the engine operating cost/hour being minimal at 8-900 hrs. replacement as discussed by Rainbow. I am not convinced this is true, however, if it is correct making an upgrade like this would be even more desirable. Then the issue becomes getting enough time on these new engines to have confidence in the design.

The cylinders look considerably larger. So aside from the cooling air volume I suspect the absolute size of the engine may create cowl sizing complications. I sure would like someone to pioneer the conversion. Mike

I understand from normally reliable sources that the O360 is 1 1/2" wider than the CC340. So the cowl would have to be modified.

I was immediately attracted to how nice those new cylinder head castings look.

I don't see a head-barrel seam? Is the whole cylinder aluminum with a steel sleeve in it?

Don't know Pete. All I know is what I have learned on FaceBook. Kevin is traveling right now for the holidays. I plan to stop by his hangar here at KSBP and get briefed on his project when he gets back. Will post an update when I know more.

Good eye Pete, I was wondering what kind of finish is in the cylinder.

Suggest you get on FaceBook and start asking questions. Kevin has been answering all the questions placed on FB. He is totally engaged in social networking covering many subjects (many having nothing to do with airplanes) 24X7.

Interesting approach to aircraft engine R&D. Doing all his work and testing in the clear via social networking. Neat approach.

Turbopilot, wow! I had no idea anyone was paying attention. All I can tell you right now is that Bart Lalonde and I are working 12 hours every day to come up with exactly the configuration you seek. We are very close and if anyone can hlep me pull this off, its Bart!
