    The larger battery adds weight, the cowling retrofit and starter swap will loose a little weight. Something like roughly plus 3-5 lbs vs minus 2-3 lbs.

    For owners who don't want or need the cowl this is the sensible path. It allows the installation of the Odyssey PC680 which will spin either starter just fine hot or cold. I think the kit is around $600 plus installation.

    The service instructions are posted on the Owner Support section of www.cubcrafters.com if you want to review them or show them to your mechanic before you commit. It doesn't take any special tools, just measure twice (or three times) and cut once.

    We have a kit now that you can put on an ELSA or E-AB carbon cub. It's a blister that goes over the area where the Hartzell starter proturdes our of the cowling. I will post some pictures soon. It's beautiful, clear coated carbon fiber and looks factory.
