    Carbon Cub Owners

    As many may already know, there is now a cabin heat retrofit kit available (SI0027). This will allow for increased flow of cabin heat, therefore making the cabin more comfortable on those cold days. There are two templates included as part of the PDF instructions you can print from the support page of our website. In order to print the templates to the proper scale you will need to set your printer scaling to "none". Please still measure the 8" line and 6" line to verify proper scaling.     Has anyone done this retrofit kit that could potentially speak to the amount of improvement in heating?

    Just thought I'd post a follow-up. Installed the retrofit kit. Made a noticeable difference in the front in 30dF OAT the performance is comparable to what I used to notice when OAT was 52dF. The heat loss I noticed on last flight was from door and window drafts. I've sealed those off and adjusted the Cowl flaps a bit and will report back after next flight and try to get a cabin temp reading.

    New heat collectors and scat tubing is noticably bigger as is the air intake for the heat system. The bottleneck appears to be the opening to the cabin through the firewall.

    Rear seat? You will need one of these if you're north of the Mason-Dixon line.

    Feedback from rear seat passenger was that they couldn't feel warm air blowing but I still had a few areas where my windows and door seals were leaking. Did some work on them and will see how much better if any it gets. Thinking about routing some scat tubing to the back to see how it helps but 75% of the time I'm flying alone in the cub.

    FX-3 has quite effective rear heat. The left exhaust heat exchanger either feeds windshield defrost or two outlets on the left side in the rear cabin. The center left side panel includes a molded-in heat duct that connects to the firewall flap valve.

    Heat is not a problem in the FX-3 but lack of outside air really is, especially in the summer in Arizona. I wish the system had been designed to allow unheated outside air to exit all the heater ports.

    Don't know if the exhaust heat exchangers need airflow to keep their temperatures down but I'd like a way to bypass them.
