I just finished wiring my panel and was testing the Becker Com radio and could not get rid of the really bad static in the background. Double checked the grounds, antenna connections, wiring harness, etc and everything looked good. Ran the squelch all the way up, didn't do a thing. Spent about an hour trying to determine if I had screwed something up or if the radio was TU out of the box. Was about ready to give up when I noticed the frequency of the static was similar to what I heard when I unsquelched my hand held transceiver.
Then I got smart and turned off the 15 fluorescent lights with electronic ballasts in my shop and whatta ya know- radio works perfect.......
Hopefully this will save the next poor sap who tests their radios some time and frustration.
