So I request a 25nm radius around Kent Fort Manor (7MD8) this would allow for operation from my home base of W18, across the bay and over to the "sparsely populated" farmlands of the Eastern Shore of MD. What they came back with was this...

Leaving me splitting the DC SFRA and under the veil of the Washington Tri-Area class Bravo. My typically flight tests were to exit the DC SFRA and remain over Kent Island. Outside of the DC SFRA I had only 1 landing point, 3W3 Kentmorr, a residential grass strip with no service and standing water most days. I only had the small triangle to the South that wasn't under the Bravo to do climb and power testing. Most all testing was conducted over the water and away from houses. Actually my first test flight which took place at W18, and was below Bravo resulted in the neighbors calling law enforcement as there was a small plane circling for an hour making noise.

40hrs locked down in this area was excruciatingly painful. I hope all you guys out West know just how good you really have it!

Well that EarthX battery saves 12lbs! over the B and C Recumbent Gas unit I have. In mine and I'm at 1033 empty w/oil and similar options other than WVFR panel and 26" airstreaks.

    Thanks Gregg.

I've got a lot of extra bolts and parts in the plastic totes (Mitch, I swear they're not the "missing ones")! A little disconcerting, but I'm confident that I built everything 'by the book'. Kidding aside, I think the extra stuff (incl'd the extra wiring harnesses) are probably b/c of the upgrades I went with (you still get the base model stuff sent). I hope!

As you might have caught next to my empty weight, I included the number of cross coast I applied of the PolyFiber products. That's got to be extra weight. The factory only gives you enough for "two lapping coats" but the STC calls for 3 Cross Coats. I figured I'd make that 300+ hours of covering last - so I went with the STC. I can't remember how much extra Poly Spray, Brush and Tone the 3 cross coats in weight finally amounts to, but it can't be negligible.

To answer your question, I'm not sure I did anything special to save weight - if anything - I was worried mine might be on the heavy side.

I'm curious, what do the 'loaded' CCK-1865 weigh in at?

    Pete,

Did you go with the 3 cross coats or the 2 lapping?

    Autopilot? Those servos aren't light.

The 26" Airstreaks must weigh a bit too.

I went with 3 full cross coats and wet sanded before PPG. One cut in coat of PPG and two full wet coats. I have AP with autotrim. You are correct, those servos have some heft to

    Less the PPG products.

Oh, I also added sound deadening to the interior of the boot cowl side and bottom.

That is right about where mine is. I have the big tanks, extended baggage, long step, 31s and a Baby Bushwheel and I'm +\- 1000 pounds depending on which battery I'm using. I've got the PC680 now so a little over. With the lithium's I was a little under.

A 1000 pound Cub with 180 hp is a great performer any way you measure it.

I too bought some extra Poly Spray and put on a coating per the Polyfiber manual. My top coat is Polytone with Aerothane trim and also Aerothane on the non fabric components.
