    Default Trickle Chargers

Charger for IBBS battery is included with new CC.
Bought a Battery Minder as suggested by Randy.
Is it necessary or a good idea to use both chargers
or will the Battery Minder charge both batteries?
Also if both are necessary, where does the IBBS
    charger plug get inserted.
    And, The Battery Minder asks:
    charge rate and battery type??
    Which is best?
    Thanks
    Alan

    Hi Alan
I believe the Batteryminder model to which you refer -- they have several -- features modes for Flooded, Gel, and AGM type batteries. Your Carbon Cub is equipped with an AGM type battery, so use that mode. It is a three stage charger, with the bulk charging stage options at 2, 4, and 8 amps. The 2 amp option is fine for a maintenance (float) charge. If your battery is down a little, and you want to get it to full charge before you operate the starter, then the 8 amp option gets you there faster.
Interesting question on the Integrated Backup Battery System. In my opinion you don't have to pay any attention to it since it is not a starting battery, and it is wired into your aircraft charging system. Any other opinions on that issue?
Let's see some pics from your cross-country Carbon Cub flight!

By "IBBS" do you mean the ignition backup battery? We provide a charger for that? News to me, that is charged continuously at all times while the aircraft is running normally.

And though we did switch to an AGM battery for a short time we went back to the sealed lead acid so use the "Flooded" setting on the BatteryMinder. Charge rate doesn't matter that much unless you're in a rush, I'd use either 2a or 4a.

    Alan,

The IBBS charger you were provided with is for the "Integrated Backup Battery System" that powers the G3X in your plane. The only time you would (optionally) use the charger for the IBBS is if you were going to store the aircraft for several months or more. The IBBS is continually charged through the main bus.

The IBBS not only acts as a backup battery in the case of a main system electrical failure, but it also keeps the G3X "alive" if the bus voltage momentarily gets pulled below the operating voltage of the G3X. This is why you turn on the IBBS switch when you turn on the master switch. The IBBS will charge if the switch is on or off, by turning it on you are powering up the G3X.

    Pete,
If the system is receiving a maintenance charge from the Batteryminder charger, is there any reason to use the IBBS charger at the same time? Does the Batteryminder charge both?

This thread may be confusing to some readers: Alan had a custom Garmin G3X panel installed which has its own proprietary IBBS. This is NOT standard Carbon Cub stuff.

Alan, you might want to post a pic here, I'd be there are some curious folks.

Did anyone take pictures before the fabric was put on the wings (magnetometer location)? Which wing and bay was it put in?

    Thanks,
    Tony

This system was installed as a post certification item, all components were installed after the aircraft was finished.
