Has anyone used a lazer thermometer to calibrate an iron? If so. how did it do for you?
Thanks for your info.

Ooh, great question. Irons heretofore have been calibrated using heat sink compound and a thermometer, kind of a hassle. It would be great to check using the traditional method and measure at the same time with the laser thermometer. Proper iron calibration is important.

I tried calibrating my irons with a lazer thermometer it worked great on one but didn't show the correct temp. on the other don't know why.

I've used an infared point and shoot type thermometer on my irons. They work really well for this application. I think most of them have a red laser pointer to see where you're taking a reading but the laser doesn't measure temperature.

Infrared thermometers are typically calibrated to a flat black surface any other color may give you a false indication. I have had customers try it on ceramic coated headers (polished aluminum look) and they have had real low indications on the thermometers in fact so low that they decided to touch them with their bare hands and really burned themselves.
Off topic, go to you tube and type in Ceramlock and check out aviation 2 video.
Thanks
