    Default Adventure Option

    Somebody has to ask the question. Is the Adventure package going to be optional for the kit?
    This will fill alot of my wants for the kit.

    It pretty much is included in the kit - other than some welding for the extended floor. It's a beautiful plane. But be aware it's the 1800+lb gross that works with extended tanks and all the rest. At 1320 gross and full tanks the 'adventure' is a 100lb jockey flying naked into the Alaskan bush. Thrilling but chilling. ;-)

    All the options for the adventure edition have been available in the kit for a few months now. There is no change in the fuselage ie. welding. The baggage is a direct replacement for the upper and lower carbon fiber aft baggage compartment. the Aux fuel, extended baggage , and 3X3 extended landing gear will add 30lbs to the empty weight.

    The empty weight is listed as 943 lbs. 44 gallons of fuel is 277 lbs. Now the plane weighs 1220 lbs. An LSA aircraft maxis out at 1320 lbs. That leaves 100 lbs for the pilot and gear.

    So, to fly legally, the only way to solve the problem of full fuel is to build a kit and declare it as an 1865 lb gross airplane. Is that correct?

    I want to purchase a kit - is the 1865 lb option the most realistic?

    This is why we only offer the "Adventure Package" as a single place SLSA as a fully built aircraft. You are correct, we recommend most kit builds have their GW set at 1,865 lbs where you'd have plenty of useful load. The only exception to this is if the owner wants to operate it using Sport Pilot priveledges, then he/she will want to set the GW at 1,320 and live with limited useful load.

    The FAA needs to create a new category of aircraft. Let's call it D-LSA for 'dynamic light sport aircraft' for airplanes of this capability. Dynamic in the interest of safety. The history of the Cub itself is dynamic in it's perfection, which continues.

    Home-builders are a creative lot. I think the more kits you sell, the more builders will figure out ways to safely shave off weight. Someone said, "Airplanes aren't designed, they're built." Meaning: the fun is in the process of finding a better way to skin the cat in the real McCoy and not some cad drawing. Push your kits and watch what happens...
