    Default Jury Strut SB

A new Service Bulletin for Carbon Cubs:

It seems like there should be a better way of informing owners about these things other than somebody like me stumbling over it through dumb luck and posting it here.

    Dan,

Ha! I just came across that too!
So we have to check for service bulletins on a regular basis???
    Must be a better way.

CC: add a section to the forums and post when these come up. Inquiring minds want to know.

The jury strut attach brackets on these aircraft have been an issue going all the way back to Sport Cub #3 when I had the right forward jury strut attach bracket fail somewhere over Iowa while delivering the airplane east. SB went out on the Sport Cubs for similar issue, if not identical. There is energy being transmitted up the strut or through the spar out to where it bombards the attachments for those fittings. It is not a new problem in the grand scheme and is an ongoing theme for the type it would continue to appear.

I am on the verge of covering my EX-3 wings, and of course I would like to fix this first. I first saw this on Supercub.org last week, and Friday afternoon I wrote Jon Delamarter (kit program manager at CC, since departed) and Pat Horgan (CC president) to ask for guidance, and to suggest that there should be a mechanism to notify the owners of SBs.

I have not received a reply.

Easy fix. 3/16" screw and nut.

Ha! That's what I was thinking. If you have to go in there to repair, why not nut & bolt it?

There is an Advisory Circular which permits this type of substitution. This was done on mine during the build.
    Thanks Dan.

According to the 'other website' the instances have only occurred on the front attach bracket. But you can bet I'll be grabbing both forward and aft on every preflight.

Unfortunately, the leading edge skins are on, so no access to the back of the spar. Maybe some big fat cherrymax rivets.

This annoyed me too and I discovered https://visualping.io which automates the lookup and send you an email when it changes. Free for a couple of checks.
