    Default Camera boom

I recently acquired a 360 camera and wanted to get it out ahead of the wing, to shoot back. Another pilot wouldn't tell me how he did his, so I came up with my own. When extended, the carbon fiber boom is fully 5' ahead of the wing, allowing for some incredible shots. It's mounted on my Carbon Cub, but would work equally well on ANY high wing with two struts.

I'll post some photos, but first, the cost breakdown:

    Carbon Fiber Boom $86.99

    Two Rod Clamps $38.00

Two Rock Steady Wing Mounts (works on a huge range of struts) $220

    Total Cost: $344.99

Thanks, Jeremy! Parts ordered and eagerly anticipated. I'd be interested in seeing some shots from your rig (and which 360º camera you like).

Hi Tiger Cub. I just installed the boom, so no stills yet. I did shoot video and am waiting to edit it. I noticed that when fully extended (5' forward of the wing), there is too much vibration/movement of the camera. So I intend to settle on a distance of perhaps 3.5' forward of the wing and that should be sufficient.
I was gifted an Insta360 One X 360 degree camera and am having so much fun using it. When compared to other cameras out there, it is lighter and has a narrower profile, both attributes when you want to hang something out in the wind ahead of the wing. I'll post some photos when I get it dialed in. Good luck with your installation.

Here is my first video test mounted on the new boom. It was definitely extended too far and there is noticeable camera shake I'm looking forward to another trial, but not as extreme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHnDJQ6F6lk

There was far less motion then I thought it would be at full extension. You should be able to dial it in nicely. I think overall its going to produce nice video, that color and clarity is great

That video is amazing. Thank you for posting your setup. I’ve been thinking about doing something similar but hadn’t gotten beyond just the concept. This will help.

Hi. Thanks for sharing. Would you mind sharing the 360 Camera model details ?
And also please share the camera base that fits to the tip of the Boom. Is it a special adapter ?
    Happy New year..!!!
    Art.
