    Default CubCrafters Ventral fin install

Does anybody have any documentation or knowledge on how the ventral fin on the EX-3 is installed? Engineering drawing? Pictures? Ideally I would like to weld a tab on before cover. That area gets a lot of spray.

    Thanks,
    Gregg

It's in the EX dropbox folder under miscellaneous and Float Installation.pdf.
I presume it won't have changed for the EX3.

Are you able to send me the Dropbox link for the EX? I only have the EX3 link and there isn’t a float manual in the misc. section.

    Thanks,
    Gregg

I'll email you the PDF. I understand CC are not keen on sharing their dropbox links. Though I expect they would respond to your personal request.

No welding required, the ventral brackets are designed to bolt in to a covered airplane.

    Pete,

Is this fin needed on an EX2?

I am planning for floats this fall and have seen CC cubs on floats with and without this ventral fin.
    I plan on Clamar 2180 amphibs, I am 1865lb EX2

    Thank you,

    David

Double check the drawing package but I believe yes, the Claymar installation would require a ventral. There is different size/slightly different shape ventrals for CC11/Bauman, CC18/Wipline, CC19/wipline and the Claymar installations on EX/FX but the bracket installation is very similar and shares some parts between all of them.

From this drawing it looks like you need at least an Adel clamp installed before cover. I was hoping to weld tabs like I did with the water rudder pulley attach points. Does the ventral fin interfere with the inspection panel?

I ended up adding a tab to attach the forward bracket of my ventral fin to. I didn’t like the idea of cutting the fabric or having an adel clamp in a high abrasion area. Here is the result after green epoxy primer and rattle can black.
