    Default Exhaust system needed. Suggestions?

I am in need of an exhaust system for my fuel injected Lycoming 340 with Sky Dynamics sump and intake.
The standard EX2 exhaust I have does not fit. It is not even close and could not be modified to fit. Mitch says the EX3 exhaust will not fit the 340 as the 360 is a bit wider than the 340.

Sky Dynamics will not commit to a delivery time of an exhaust system as they are very backed up and would only say "not this fall" - yikes!

I am in final assembly of the kit now and I suspect I can not get the aircraft inspected without an exhaust.

    Advice? Thoughts?

    Thanks in advance,
    David

Call Clint at Vetterman Exhaust in South Dakota. He does excellent work and will make custom systems like yours would be.

    Thanks Dan,
I left a message for Clint, I'm hopeful he can help.

    David,

I am in the same position with a 340 engine and Sky Dynamics sump. What did you wind up doing?

    Mark,

I used Dan's suggestion and contacted Clint at Vetterman exhaust. He built me an exhaust from 321 Stainless. it required only one back and forth shipping of the exhaust. I sent him all of my intake which he used to model the exhaust.

It is a two pipe exhaust with mufflers and heat muffs. The heat muffs look very much more substantial than the heat muffs I had received form CubCrafters.

I had to aggressively trim the more midline cowl flaps where they turn in at 90 degrees and have the pivot and adjustment screws.

Clint should be able to replicate this easily now.

    I'll attach some pics:

Looks very nice and typical of Clint's quality workmanship.

When I added a pod to my EX I found I was getting CO inside. Apparently the pod changed the exhaust flow enough to cause the problem. I got some extensions from Clint and that improved it a lot. I'm still getting readings up into the teens PPM at time though. Anybody else monitor their CO levels and if so what are you seeing?

Before I put the extensions on and after installation of the pod it was in the 40s PPM.

I think the general recommendation is readings over 10 should be addressed.

Sweet looking setup. Can you give us a report on cabin heat?

I am curious on this as well. I am willing to buy a whole new exhaust that has a much bigger heat muff. I don't care if I lose some performance. I plan to call Vetterman on this. If it cant be done, I will just have to build an EX3.

Well before you go up a number let's collectively come up with a warm solution. Several have shown interest in working on one but nothing to date I'm aware of. Please keep us informed on Vetterman.

Is the exhaust system including the heat muffs the same on SS, EX and EX2?
