Default One hour on the Hobbs!

Another EX2 takes to the air. N97CC got airborne this morning from Hayward CA.

Two and a half years after the kit was delivered. Only issues were a loose oil filler flap and it needs a bit of right rudder trim.
105 knots (120MPH if you prefer) at 2400 RPM, no high temperatures and burning 9.5 galls/hr fully rich for the engine break in.

    The fun begins...

Congratulations Mark! Got any finished pictures? These are great machines.

Run it hard for the first hours. I used mineral oil and changed oil after 12 hours and ran the same oil through 25 hours. Following that; Phillips XC 20-50 and then added Camguard after 100 hours or so. The compressions are still in the high 70s with over 800 hours now.

Up to 1.8 hours now. The cover is Oratex in "Fokker Red" (who said red is the new yellow?)

Built in my city-owned hangar hence no painting allowed. It should be finished and trimmed in its full glory some time after Phase 1.

A good wind down the runway today so take-off distance was about half the length of the piano keys and landing not a lot more!

It looks nice. I'm wondering what your empty weight is with Oratex and small tires?

    Hi Dan,

957 lbs - I posted the numbers here

The tyres are the 22" Desser Tundra tyres.

    Hi Steve,

My main motivation for Oratex was that I didn't have the option to spray paint at my hangar.

Generally it was positive. Certainly cleaner and no nasty smelly vapours. It's a bit harder to form round complex curves and an extra hand would have helped, though I did manage to do nearly all of it single handed. I ended up with a few creases which annoyed me, but nobody else seems bothered by.

After 20 hours I've found one tape which hadn't set properly, but it was easy to apply more glue to the lifted edge and re-seal it.

The slightly translucent appearance is generally liked by most people and all the comments that I've received have been positive (maybe they're being polite).
