Default Carbon Cub flight over the Swiss Alps

A HUGE big thank you to Max and his gorgeous Carbon Cub EX for taking me on a flight of a life time over the Swiss Alps last September!

Im a huge procrastinator, but I finally got the video done.

Having grown up in Switzerland, and having skied and hiked and gazed up at the Alps my whole life, it was an incredible experience to fly over them in the perfect plane for the mission..... fabulous!

    Hope you all enjoy!

    Dan,
    You are right!
Max (the owner of the EX we flew) is an accomplished CFI, and is one of the very few CFI's in Switzerland that is qualified to give instruction in landing on the Swiss glaciers (there are like 60 of them!) with skiis!

Its an 'endorsement' of sorts, and is a requirement to get before being allowed to solo on skiis in the Glaciers. And its quite rigorous... I think like several hundred landings in a 12 month period on at least a dozen or so different Glaciers.....

When we were there in September, it was one of the few months that were NOT permissible to land with skiis... too many crevices. But we flew by half a dozen high alpine mountain climbing huts, and heard his stories of landing, hiking over to the hut, having a great lunch or sleeping over, and then flying back down the next day! Awesome.

Needless to say Id love to go back in the winter and fly with him on skiis as well. The Glaciers where he lands and pointed out to me were pristine....

    Rick

    Great video!

What is max using for a muffler? Is it required for his location? What HP decrement is there with a muffler?

Is this an option here in USA?

    David,
    good spot on the muffler!
The Swiss authorities put Max thru the ringer on noise reduction, and overall certification of the plane, since its the very first Carbon Cub in Switzerland.
I think he had that muffler made up as a test vehicle to get the dB's down. Im sure there was a power loss, but I dont know how much.
I could put you in touch with him if you want to ask him about it in detail..... but for sure there is nothing from CubCrafters, muffler wise.
