    Default Little Airplane, Big Mountains

Sport Cub #62 and I just got back from a long weekend at Mackay Bar, Idaho (by way of Yakima and the CubCrafters factory), and Minam, Oregon. I was traveling with a group of other pilots, with a PA-12 (160 hp), a Husky and two PA-20's, and the Sport Cub performed excellently next to all of them.

This trip was the shakedown cruise for my airplane's new Sensenich composite ground-adjustable prop. One-word PIREP: WOW!!! (More here)

Jeff: I have just spent the last two and a half weeks flying in the mountains in my S-1. It was always a great airplane, but with the high compression pistons (and whatever else magic Aerosport uses) it is spectacular. Leaving Johnson Creek loaded from the SC flyin, it climbed with the super cubs, then flew faster than they did still climbing as we flew direct to Twin Bridges at Density altitudes of ca. 11500, true Airspeed of 114mph, and all on less than 5 gal/hour. What a great airplane!! You guys let me know if you go back into ID....I'll see if I can meet up with you. Mackay Bar is a great destination, and there are more equally beautiful places to go ... fishing will be great back there when the water levels drop. Ralph

Glad to hear how well its working for you Jeff. Saw George Hoover competing in the takeoff contest this weekend using that prop with a 46 pitch cartridge and he too can't say enough good things about it. The other Sport Cub there I think had a metal prop on it and you could hear a real difference in how fast the two motors spun up to RPM-noticeably quicker with the lightweight composite prop.
