Today we took a hop North in the Adirondacks and today wife Leigh was up for the trip too. Left Saratoga on skis and wove our way up the Sacandaga River Valley to Lake Pleaaant for breakfast in Speculator. This is a favorite haunt and has been all my life. Just 37 miles north of home but you sure get a different feel.

We traversed Lake Algonquin with a race track on the ice and made our way up the river where Oak Mtn Ski Center came into view. Further North was bright blue sky but we stayed south and shared the different perspective snow gives the landscape. Actually seeing the curves and cuts. In the summer by float plane, it’s just a bed of green below.

After breakfast we went west to Honandaga Lake and then turned South to give our friends on black creek lake a low pass. Jeff Irwin was not there with his SC so we kept motoring flying over some areas Leigh has not seen in Winter. Flew past Royal mountain ski center also just because we have friends skiing there today and let’s face it skiers love low flying planes. I thought everyone did. Back to the reservoir where a big ice fishing derby was on and those folks really do love low flying planes. They love beer more though. We were back in Saratoga by 1pm. Yup it was awesome and another gift of a day.

Wednesday was severe clear and CAVU all the way North so I jumped in the FX and headed that way. Up through Lake George, across to Gore Mtn., down thru Indian Lake to Speculator for eggs and bacon. Once nourished, did a lap around Oak Mtn ski center and headed west. There is plenty of ice and even snow on the edges. Bush wheels would have been fine and even 8:50s. Flew over Piseco Lake airport, another nice access point to the Adirondacks for flyers any time of year. On to the west to Canada Lake, the Caroga Lakes, Royal Mtn and then turned for home. Wish I'd had time for more. I can't decide still if skis or floats is more fun??? Guess I will continue to experiment. Yankee 1

Short little trip down to Frederick, MD. Had some weather along the way but fun overall. Made a stop in NJ to see a nice PA12 for sale then down to the Kibler farm just as the skies cleared.

AOPA did a great job for its member despite the rain. The C47 show was nice commemorating D Day and the STOL demo featured 8 planes including me in 92LG. See that on FB Live. I’m at 34:45.

Can’t say enough great things about our family of NE taildragger pilots. Jim Crane gathered a gaggle of us together for a “Baby Shower” for the new arrival of 40M.

This was to be a surprise for Glen and so it was. 10 planes gathered at Browns 1VT8 which is a posh sod grass strip. Agusta National is its only competition. Special thanks to Mtn Bob for a splendid breakfast he put on for the 10 Pilots and there birds. Browns sits in first ridge of the Green Mountains of VT. The views west are incredible. Glen still with no clue. We visited with Bob and then we all said our faux good byes and separated and flew to Symon VT66. It’s another slice of heaven, 1100’ of beautiful turf nestled in the Champlain valley and just 4 miles east of the big Lake. This is a 250 acre parcel with a special pheasant farm for the outdoorsman in all of us. Again thanks to Judy and Brenda for setting up a great surprise for Glen. Even after landing he still had no idea.

Together with some of his closest family and friends, we helped Glen celebrate the arrival of his new baby. N40M. Thanks to all of you who attended and Dan Dufault for a great job well done. Glen loves it!. Congratulations!
