As a data point. Forward CG (by my large self) and full tanks. 2 notches, wallowed around at 33 or so. No break, but pretty solid buffet and descent. Three notches, wallowed around at 30 or so...same deal, no break, but buffett and descent.

And I also use 3 notches under pretty much all conditions. Slower is better, near as I can figure.

Jim, do you have gap seals and I guess this is no power? Thanks

Yes to gap seals. And yes...no power. With any real amount of power the deck angle gets kind of sweaty for me. One of those deals where I really doubt that it will be a flight regime that I am ever gonna be in. So, no practice. On the other hand, those are the speeds I generally see on short final...usually carrying a little power to control descent.

Well that sure is strange.....I did it twice and both times the stall was higher speed substantially with full flaps than with 2 notches. Power off and gap seals....just like you.

It is a puzzlement, Dave. My airplane is stone stock #226. Well...I did put Oregon Aero seats in it...gap seals for sure. The speeds I got playing around yesterday were consistent with my experience in actual use when landing. Perhaps your pitot tube is being confused by a higher angle of attack? Although in all honesty, the deck angle at 2 versus 3 is little different in my airplane. I guess that I am not smart enough to come up with much of anything else.

    Dave,

    Slotted flaps - nice.

I found it on the CubCrafters site:

    A. The original flap settings on the CC11 aircraft are set at 15, 30 & 50 degrees. Settings for the new flaps installed on Carbon Cub FX & EX-2, and XCub are 15, 32 and 46 degrees. Why the change? The new flaps are highly effective and provide better lift (and drag) at high deflections. The new slotted flaps’ effectiveness at 46 degrees is essentially equivalent to 50 degrees with the original design. A long regimen of flight testing confirmed that the airflow pattern across the tail is improved using the new flaps at full deployment. Minor buffet/vibration is also reduced. The new mid-flap position is intended to keep the flap lever control motion consistent when moving from 2 to 3 notches of flaps, which was a direct response to test pilot feedback.

I don't have flaps, seem to land as short as everybody else, sometimes shorter. It's not what you got, it's how you use it
