    Default Night Flying

With the days getting shorter I can finally fly at night before it is past my bed time. I installed the dual landing lights and they work really well when the tail is up. After landing it is just like turning out the lights when the tail comes down. I keep the tail up until I have stopped but it is hard to taxi that way forever. I am planning to put a micro sun on the gear as it worked well on my last plane. Any thoughts on this? Is there possibly a way to shim one landing light down for taxing? Thinking that would cut down how far I can see down the runway though. Any comments would be appreciated.

    Thanks

It is possible to shim a light down. I have done it for a customer before. Basically I did 4 screws instead of 2, and the upper ones I put double z clips on, custom made and a little longer to tilt the light down.

You can also get a taxi light instead of the landing light bulb, it has more of a frosted lens and diffuses the light more rather than being a spot light way out there.

Another suggestion have been playing with is to use some alum reflective tape on top side of ldg lite pexi cover to reflect light down. How effective is the replacement lite and where does one get it?

I'm embarrassed to admit...but it may be useful to point out...that the few times I have found myself out after dark, I use my personal flashlight (which one ALWAYS carries) to find my way around the field. Actually works pretty darn good. I have one of those super duper little lights.
