You are doing it right. The metal on top of the windshield is thick and with a #3 hole it is thought to get the trix nuts in. What I did was drilled the hole to the #3 then took my deburring tool and slightly tapered the top of the hole. Then load your trix nut into your puller and work it into the hole. I tried to start it in at an angle then twist them with the tool to get them to seat in the hole. It won't seat all the way in the hole until you pull it. The metal at the top of the windshield is the hardest because of the thickness of the metal. When you get to the boot cowl they go in much easier. Keep practicing on a thin peice of aluminum. You will get it!
