Default Isn't a Carbon Cub the Perfect Airplane?

Jeff Skiles made a number of complimentary mentions of the Carbon Cub in his Contrails commentary in the August issue of Sport Aviation magazine. Though it may not be perfect for all missions, "... this Carbon Cub is a thoroughbred excelling in its mission and purpose as no other".

    I'll take that!

Jeff is confirming what us owners already know! I've flown many types of airplanes through out my career and my CarbonCub has been the PERFECT airplane for me. 13 months old now with 115 hrs on it and I've loved every minute I've put on it. Keep up the good work CubCrafters!!

Thanks for posting the article. I have had my Cub for 3 years (this month!) and agree that it is darn near perfect. It is not a fast airplane, altho if I lean it out and run it just slightly more than the placard, I can get a pretty honest 100KTS at around 8 or so gph. On the other hand, I've flown it the best part of across the country (more than 1200 statute mile trips) around 4 times and it is a traveling machine...My wife and I have decided that on out next trips instead of overnighting and then getting up early, we're gonna fly to "a destination" at the end of each day and enjoy it for a day or so before moving on. Most weather has not been a problem. Been caught out after dark a few times (private pilot with a physical) and no problem. Most of the weather I've worked are thunderstorms and it's been easy to work around them. Winds on landings...knock wood, not a problem so far.

So it travels pretty well, actually. On the other hand, it's cool to be able to pick out a nice field to pee (after landing) if I need to. The airplane can go pretty much anywhere _I_ want. I had a Cirrus for a business airplane and I sold it. I don't/can't see any scenario where I will sell my Cub.

    Thanks, CubCrafters!

    Amen,

Just flew mine from Yakima to WV and had a blast! A great compliment to my yank and bank RV-8.

I found only one scenario why I would sell a perfectly good loaded 2013 Carbon Cub. That was to buy an even better 2015. Don't really know how I got by flying that 2013 around for 150 hours without altitude pre-select.

Excellent point, David. Thank you for pointing out my logical fallacy!

Jim, I can solve the issue of flying around in an "old" airplane!! As David points out, the new G3X Panel with Garmin Autopilot is a fabulous combination of technology and fun that you simply can't believe until you experience it. Let's go flying in my demo airplane sometime soon!!

Everyone note: this comment came from Chip Allen, who swore he would never buy a Cub with a glass cockpit. He's on his second.

Will he buy a Cub that isn't Classic Yellow? I predict he will.
