Congrats to Gary!!!!
I had the opportunity to fly Gary's plane after the contest was over -- it is just flat amazing! With just me in it and a fair headwind it launches like a kite... straight up. Pull the stick full back, push the throttle forward, and it launches up out of the water and into the air and never does go on the step. I suspect if there were no headwind it might go on the step just briefly. The impact of the floats on this plane in every regard is so small it makes you think everyone should have amphibs.
Congrats to Gary on the win, he did a superb job learning the plane in the week prior. We'll let him keep his launch secrets to himself for now, but if you have quick hands a little creative use of the flaps get's it off even quicker (as evidenced by his results). Good job Gary!

Congratulations Gary! Looks like you guys had nice sunny weather-its raining here today
Looking forward to hearing more stories about where you are going on floats.

Thanks for all the congrats messages, but could never have done this without all the great work form everyone at Cubcrafters and Baumann. They all pitched in and was a fast and furious effort to get the Carbon Cub on the Amphibs and trained before Sun & Fun and it all paid off. Great effort from everyone and fun to boot. Here is the video shot by a pal and while not great footage its gets the job done and you have to watch it a few times to figure out just how fast the Carbon Cub came off the water. Literally never on step. The floats rise and take of from there. Sure impressed the gang from Jack Browns Seaplane Base also who thought they had seen em all. Best Gary

I just found a beautiful photo of Gary's Carbon Cub on the web:

(The caption calls it a CC-11-100, probably relying on outdated registration data. I've already submitted a correction to jetphotos.net.)
