    Default Throttle Control Nut Keeper

    Throttle Nut Keeper

The tension on the throttle is adjusted by tightening or loosening the screw holding the pivot point of the forward lever. The problem is holding the nyloc nut in place when doing so. Typically one would have to access the nut from behind while adjusting the screw. If there were a way to secure the nut from behind one could simply tighten or loosen the screw with little fanfare.

Long ago we posted a picture of a nut keeper fabricated out of a washer, bent at strategic points and then welded on the seams. It worked just fine but a more elegant and reproducible solution was desired.

Here are photos of a prototype nut keeper which Ryan machined. It is a tiny device that fits perfectly and seems to work very well.

It is my expectation that this could be retrofitted to a completed plane by simply removing the access panel around the fuel selector switch, although since my plane is a long way from being complete I have not yet been able to confirm how easy that would be.

Ryan is willing to machine more of these if there if anyone interested. They are rather labor intensive, but my expectation is the cost will be around $25 or so.

    Chuck,

i would take one. I did the washers but I am a little worried about long term success with that.

For those that have expressed an interest in the nut keeper, Ryan tells me he has completed machining a batch and they should be ready to go out in the next week or so.

I will respond to each of you at the contact information that you have sent to me. Be sure to include a full mailing address where you would like it sent when you e mail me at ceslaw@aol.com.

    I appreciate your patience.

The tension on the throttle is adjusted by tightening or loosening the screw holding the pivot point of the forward lever. The problem is holding the nyloc nut in place when doing so. We described a machined nut keeper in a previous post.

Ryan has made a fresh batch of the throttle nut keepers. They are available for $25 each. (Only one is needed). I doubt he will make any more once these are gone. Machining them is rather time consuming.

Contact me at ceslaw@aol.com. Put “Throttle keeper” in the reference line of the E mail so I don’t miss it.

Chuck do you think this could be installed on a finished airplane?

Looks like a neat, simple and well made addition.
