    Default More reinforcement tapes??

I just finished shrinking the fabric on my fuselage and will start taping next week. I see how cubcrafters uses minimal reinforcement tapes. The polyfiber manual stresses to use tapes anywhere you have "hard under soft" which would be all the stringers and upper longeron. Have any of you guys had trouble with cracking where tapes were not applied over stringers? I always taped my stringers and longerons with certified airplanes and the local cub builders and telling me to add the extra tapes. However, if no one is having problems with the way CC does it (and I doubt anyone does or they wouldn't do it) I will just go with the EX manual.

I put the extra tapes on my EX. The only reason not to, as I see it, is to save time. Places around the tail feathers, grab handle, upper longeron above the grab handle all get additional rubbing from ground handling.

It it just made sense to me to add them.

Talk to Mitch. I had the same concern. He indicated it has not been a problem even on the LSA which uses light weight fabric. I have looked at several CC with a lot of hours on the and did not see any issues with not taping the stringers and longerons.

On the other hand it may well be a good idea to add additional tapes in specific areas where additonal wear my be expected as Dan suggested

With only 65 hours on my CCEX it's quite likely too early to tell, but I'm not seeing any sign of cracking or wear on my fabric along the stringers. The only place I added tape and reinforcing patches was at a few locations around the gear.

I think I have spent more time taping off the tubing than I did covering the fuselage and I'm still not done!!
I did go with factory recommended taping with a few reinforcement added.

I sprayed the fuselage silver today. I think spraying silver is one of the most rewarding parts of the project so far for me. It seems like it goes from being a kit to an airplane in about an hour!

It's just the first coat of poly spray. I'm going to sand that out tomorrow then one more cross coat of poly spray. Top coat will be white ranthane.

Another question. I see plastic protecting the wall but it does not look like the typical air tight booth with filters and fans. Did that work out okay for the poly brush and poly spray?
