    Default EarthX Battery

I'm thinking of changing over to the EarthX Battery (ETX24C). They have been using Lithium Iron Phosphate for a few years now with no problems. The weight, CCA, and recharge times are very tempting and several Pilot friends have been using them and are very pleased (those are not Carbon Cub friends).

Does anyone have any current thoughts on the EarthX Batteries? I suppose I have to stick with the 40 amp model ETX24C.

Does anyone know if the 36c will fit in the smaller original battery box? I'm not at home so I can't measure. Web site lists the C model as 5.9 x 3.4 x 4.5.

Really look forward to hearing about your experience with this battery. You may recall I have been one of the early adopters of lithium IRON batterys. I spent quite some time with them at Sun & Fun and sounds like they have their act together including not necessary to have a special charger now as the cell balancer is built in so proof will be in the starting experience so all please post whay you find. May be a good solution here. Best Gary

I wanted to use the ETX36, but I did not, I used the ETX24. I went with the ETX24 because EarthX advised me "If you have a 40 amp alternator or smaller, you can choose the ETX24 series". Seeing that Carbon Cubs have a 40 amp alternator I chose the ETX24.

However, since then, friends have told me that I could have used the ETX36.
That battery is made for an alternator that puts out 60 amps. They say it will work because the system won't allow it to "over-amp".

I don't know if that's true or not but i wish I had tried. The ETX24 works OK but it is not as stellar as I had hoped. The 24 has around 220 CCA and the 36 has 405CCA.

I'd be anxious to hear others opinion about using the 60amp ETX36.

My X2 was showing signs of weakening after two years. I have the original starter and the X2 has been very satisfactory. However, the Earthlink 36 C just looks too good to pass up.

I installed the 36 C today-took it for a test ride. It spun up stronger than I've seen with any battery.

Now the long term test begins. I will report any significant development.

    regards, Carl

We have about 20 hours and 15 starts on an EarthX 36C. It turns the engine over exceptionally well at 70 degrees. There are a few precautions, such removing the battery if it is necessary to use a battery charger and they recommend their charger, but so far this seems to be the answer for the EX with the old starter and battery box installation. Although, we won't know for sure until we see how long it will last. They say 8 years, which is a bargain even at $350. Those in cold weather may have a different experience.

We carefully watch the voltage and the amps on the Skyview considering the reputation of Lithium batteries. This one has protections built-in, and is recommended by the manufacture for aircraft use. So, we will see how it performs and report back.

    To revive a new thread----
I bought an EarthX 36 battery last spring while my CC was in for condition inspection.
As fa result of a severe problem with the engine I did not get the battery installed until last week.
The battery sat in my garage for four months.
I installed the battery without charging it just as it came from the factory and it spun the motor better than any battery so far.
    No hesitation, very fast start.
one thing I noticed is a "high current" alarm on the Dynon display in my panel.
I have had that alarm on each start since I installed the EarthX.
    Anyone else notice that alarm?
Pete, have you had any reports of this alarm?
    Bill
