The Carbon Cub EX can qualify for the FAA's Additional Pilot Program for Phase I Flight testing. Aircraft that are eligible must be certified as Experimental Amateur-Built, be a kit built aircraft that meets the FAA's major portion requirement of Part 21 (51% Rule), have full functioning dual controls and the aircraft must use the kit manufacturer recommended powerplant. The FAA has outlined a matrix to determine the qualifications for the Additional Pilot in Advisory Circular 90-116. (Link to the AC is posted below)

If the EX is built with the factory recommended powerplant, it will qualify for this relatively new program. This means that if a builder/pilot has the EX kit, they can fly with a pilot meeting these certain qualifications within the first 8 hours of Phase I Flight Testing. After those 8 hours have been flown off and builder/pilot, as well as the aircraft, have met certain requirements the builder can fly with just about any current tailwheel endorsed pilot for the remaining testing. Again, all of the pilot requirements are spelled out in detail in the AC.

EAA's Tom Charpentier and Charlie Precourt did a webinar that goes into great detail about the program and would be worth watching.
