    Default CCEX Insurance

So it's time to renew my builders policy and it got me thinking about an in motion policy for when it's time for first flight. What have other builders found the going rate for the E-AB CCEX is? What companies have you gone with? Did they cover "first flight?" Minimum tail wheel hours requirements?

Just thinking ahead a few steps.

    Pete,

I used Jennifer Cummins with NationAir(855-538-8267). She is very knowlagable with experimental aircraft and was able to work with the underwriter to let me get dual/insurance check out in a supercub because I don't have easy access to a Carbon cub. She gets back to your questions ASAP and very good to work with.

I have 175 hours of tailwheel time so I can't give you an apples to apples comparison on price but I was quoted (three companies) 2.7-3.5k depending on the policy for a 175k hull value on my EX. She said second year should drop a fair amount.

Dont bother with AVEMCO. I had my last cub insured with them and they wouldn't even give me quote on the Carbon Cub.

    Mike,

Thanks for the reply. My other aircraft is insured through Falcon and EAA directed me to them for my builders policy as well. They quoted me $4.5k-$5K for first year @ $200K hull. I have my tail wheel endorsement but no cub time and low TW hours. They said that more TW time wouldn't reduce the first year E-AB policy enough to offset the cost of building the TW time. Helpful to see that pricing I have seen so far is somewhat inline with what you've seen.

My 172 hull is covered for $200k and policy is $1100/yr...

My 172 is through Old Republic and broker is Falcon, liability portion for 1,000,000/100,000/20,000 is $152/yr. It will be interesting to see what the final numbers come back on the CCEX.

I don't remember the numbers now but when I first got a quote a few years ago the liability portion was much less if tied in with other coverage. A stand-alone liability quote was roughly double.

In general I don't like insurance and avoid it if possible.
