    Default Dynon Skyview Touch Announced

Dynon has just announced a new touch screen panel they call Skyview Touch. Based on the documentation it looks they have thought through the challenges of using a touch screen panel in lightly wing loaded airplanes. This panel is a drop in replacement for older Skyview 10" panels with an upgrade path available. All peripherals remain the same which I confirmed in a phone call this morning with Dynon sales.

I plan to put this panel in CC316 as a post install after delivery in May.

Keep us posted. Very interesting development. Wonder if touch feature duplicates the function of the buttons or if the functions are separate.

Bob, Looks like the lower buttons are soft keys, similar to the buttons on the Garmin Perspective we are both familiar with.

Alex, it appears they have implemented touch technology without removing any of the ability to use the display with buttons or knobs. I would guess this display will be rolled out at Sun and Fun. Anyone going to that event please report back on how it works.

Nice video walkthrough of Skyview Touch. Tight integration between touch and manual features.

CC just announced a new panel using the Garmin G3X touch, which has a 10" screen. Looks like a direct competitor to the Dynon.

It appears there are two great choices for glass panels in the Carbon Cub. So far there is very little documentation on line about the Garmin G3X touch. Like the Dynon Skyview Touch, apparently the Garmin G3X uses the same peripheral equipment as the older G3X series, but the entire display panel and screen is new in the Garmin G3X Touch.

The only differences between the previous Dynon Skyview and the Dynon Skyview Touch is the screen itself plus the upgraded software. The Skyview Touch panel is the same as the previous Skyview only the screen is different. That is why the upgrade is relatively cheap. If you have a Skyview you can send it in for a screen replacement for $795 to get the touch capability.

Until we see some hands on reports of the two touch panels it will be hard to make a good choice.

What is the price? Garmin has always been really proud of their "stuff" how does it compare price wise?

Pricing for the new Executive GLASS touch panel and upgrades can be found on the current Carbon Cub SS Options page (as well as the Sport Cub S2 Options page).

You can see more info about the panel here.

Price lists have not been updated over at the Dynon site yet for the new Skyview Touch. Install documentation still not available over on the Garmin site for Garmin Touch so I am still missing important information to compare the two systems for CubCrafters Carbon Cub post delivery installation of these new glass panels.

It does appear from the pictures that Garmin Touch display may be larger than the 10" Dynon display. Looking for install dimensions of the Garmin Touch display.

I have seen a quote for parts only for the Skyview display (before Touch option) that included autopilot, ADS-B weather, engine monitor, Dynon COM and Dynon transponder for around $13,500. You can shop for the installation price.

Dynon ships install kits very complete. All the cables are done with connectors. Documentation to install the system is "Heathkit like" in detail on the Dynon web site. Between the Dynon forum and the RV forum there is all sorts of help available for anyone attempting a do it yourself installation. The biggest challenge to install a Skyview system after the aircraft is built involves getting a cable from in back of the panel out to the left wing. I am guessing it is a similar challenge with Garmin Touch. One difference between the Garmin and Skyview systems. Skyview uses an integrated ADAHARS, air data and remote compass device which is located out in the left wing. Garmin does the same thing with two devices, an ADAHARS/air data box and a separate remote compass box.
