    Default Skis 2014

image.jpgWeather and snow conditions combined for a great January day on skis in the EX. We had about 30" of snow up at Moose City and a good foot of that was powder. With a temperature of about -5 it was all fun. A warm cabin to get into for lunch and off for more fun flying.

This has been a very poor year for low snow. I put the wheel penetration skis on the first week of January and haven’t made one valley takeoff or landing in snow. But there is plenty up high.

Fish Lake Idaho. This one I’m very careful to pick my day. Any kind of trouble up here is big trouble in the winter. There’s 6-7 feet of snow already and not too many days in a winter you can get in there. Or back out. The elevation is about 5800’. This day was perfect with zero wind and a cold blue sky. The day before we had a very big wind event with power down all over western Montana. Missoula recorded 125 mph winds at a ridge top. Fish Lake is west of Missoula and I would not be at all surprised if it was blowing 100 at Fish Lake.

Winter is far from over. More to come I hope.

That looks like a lot of fun Dan
Cant imagine 125 mph. I guess you’d be like a balloon at that point, your going we’re ever it is. So much nicer to see plane pictures on the forum.

image.jpgWe've got a good foot of snow in the valley now after none for most of January. So we've been bouncing along down in the river hay field and a few other local places a few minutes from the airport.

Five years later and I’m out playing on skis on the ranch again. The last two winters I ran my straight Carbon Concept skis because we had good snow. This year in January, lacking snow in the valley, I put the LW2500s on. Little did I know lots of snow and cold was coming. And it hasn’t left yet. -17 tonight they’re forecasting. And we’ve got 2’ plus of snow right down to the river.

The old building is gone and a new outhouse in its place.

WOW! that's simply gorgeous! Here is our South Florida version of the "Cabin in the woods" hosting a Carbon Cub, Some kind of contrast at same time of year! Best Gary

I like the contrast. It looks like a scene out of Duck Dynasty

In my first image the top third of it is British Columbia. The north end of our strip is about 100 yards from the border.
